Description
Born in Paris in 1848, Gustave Caillebotte was a member and patron of the 'Impressionists' although he painted in a more realistic style than other members of the group.
He showed eight paintings in the second Impressionist exhibition in 1876.
Known for his paintings of urban Paris, including Paris Street Rainy Day, this is considered to be one of his most unique works particularly for it's photo-realist effect giving the painting a modern look, almost akin to American realists such as Edward Hopper.
