Born in Italy in 1846 Giuseppe De Nittis was one of the most important Italian painters of the 19th century.
In 1874 he was invited by Edgar Degas to exhibit at the first 'Impressionist' exhibition in Paris.
This image features an elegant woman dressed in a vibrant orange kimono. Her face is not visiable adding a sense of mystery and intrigue.
Characterized by its use of light and shadow this painting captures the folds and textures of the fabric and demonstrates the artist's unique style of impressionism.
