Description
In 1873 soon after moving to Argenteuil Monet bought a boat.
Describing it as 'a cabin' this floating studio allowed him to paint views from the River that would otherwise be inaccessible.
This image shows Monet at work in his boat, surrounded by the natural landscape. Loose and immediate brushstrokes depict reflections on the water.
There is a sense of intimacy and calm with the artist absorbed in his work whist surrounded by the beauty of nature.
