Description

In 1884 Claude Monet travelled to Bordighera, a town on The Italian Riviera on the border between France and Italy.
What was supposed to be a three week trip turned out to be three months during which time Monet is quoted as saying that he was 'wrestling with the sun' in his efforts to capture the strong Mediterranian sunlight.
This image is painted from a hilltop vantage point, it highlights the region's rich vegetation, the sun is shining down on the town and sea below visable through the abundant pine trees.
